Delphi Prism Development Essentials PDF

Author: Bob Swart

Content:

At long last, I've finished the first edition of my Delphi Prism Development Essentials at a total of 148 pages, 34,018 words and 7 chapters - see Table of Contents for more details.

The first chapter is an introduction to Delphi Prism, the different editions and the role in RAD Studio (4 pages).

The second chapter is about Language Features, and mainly meant for existing Delphi for Win32 developers who want to learn the specific new syntax details and features of the Oxygene compiler (20 pages).

The third chapter is about Delphi Prism .NET Projects, and gives brief overviews of WinForms and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and links to Brian Long's article on using Delphi Prism and Mono (10 pages).

The fourth chapter is about dbExpress and DataSnap Clients, showing how to connect and work with BlackfishSQL, InterBase and SQL Server, using a DataSnap 2010 server written in Delphi 2010 for the DataSnap client (22 pages).

The fifth chapter is about ASP.NET Web Site and Web Form Project development, with lots of ASP.NET details, including Data Access using declarative data binding to SQL Server in this case (32 pages).

The sixth chapter is all about ASP.NET Web Services, HTTP Handers and a Windows Communication Foundation service. Asynchronous SOAP clients, SOAP Session and SOAP Headers are covered as well (45 pages).

The last chapter is a bonus, covering Hydra to build managed or unmanaged plugins that can be used in managed or unmanaged host applications, using both Delphi Prism and Delphi 2010 (10 pages).

The PDF of the first edition has been sent free of charge to all my customers who bought a license of Delphi Prism or the full RAD Studio 2009 or 2010 from in the past few years. It will also be used from now on as the .NET companion for the Delphi 2010 XML, SOAP and Web Services manual (when bought in PDF format from my bookstore).

I plan to add more content to this book, including a chapter on XML (to complete the fact that this is the .NET counterpart of the Delphi 2010 XML, SOAP and Web Services book), and I expect some feedback from the first readers, so those who get the first edition can expect updates in the next few months.
The PDF edition - including free future editions of this title - is now available for 50 Euro (plus VAT where applicable) from my webshop, but not on Lulu.com for now (I'll wait until the second edition, and will then put it on Lulu for everyone who wants to purchase it as a cheaper paperback).

Marco Antonio Santin Torres 10/04/06 02:06:48Hello bob: My name is Marco Antonio Santin and I'm from Mexico. First I send you congratulations on your new book about Delphi Prism, I tell you that I also wrote a book on Delphi Prism, and already two books on Delphi Prism in the world. I leave you the link: http://www.intelsoftassociates.com/blog/?p=37
Bob Swart 10/04/06 08:00:24Thanks for the link Marco, it looks like your Spanish (?) book is mainly about the Prism / Oxygene language covering the fundamentals, object oriented programming and advanced topics like generics, collections, lambda expressions, etc. Overlap only between my second chapter. My book is mainly about the web site and projects you can develop with Delphi Prism, especially around ASP.NET and dbExpress / DataSnap.
Marco Antonio Santin Torres 10/04/07 01:41:44The part database and the ASP.NET I'm trying for several courses on video, now I have 5 courses in video: 1) Fundamentals of Delphi Prism. 2) Databases and ADO.NET with Delphi Prism. 3) ASP.NET with Delphi Prism 4) Linq to Delphi Prism (Theme I made in the Delphi Developers Day IV of Embarcadero) 5) Advanced Programming Database with Delphi Prism. I'm so glad there are people like you who cares about generating documentation on Delphi Prism. For my part, I'm trying to generate documentation in Spanish that we need so badly to the Hispanic community. I send you a big hug and a greeting.
Olaf 10/04/08 11:08:40Hello, when I try to open http://www.intelsoftassociates.com in Firefox, I get the following warning: "This web site at www.intelsoftassociates.com has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences." Not very encouraging.
Bob Swart 10/04/08 11:15:35@Olaf: I got the same warning from McAfee SiteAdvisor, blocking a trojan when going to that URL.
David Moorhouse 10/04/08 22:48:20I get the same warning and chose "Get me out of here" :(
Marco Antonio Santin Torres 10/04/09 19:27:34Ready, the site had a demo of an executable program and google it out as dangerous, but we'll fix it. Since there is no problem.
Eugeny 12/10/14 13:10:55don't know, I've never been the fan of the put everything in the brwoesr and fly me to the clouds movement, for several reasons. First, in my opinion the web brwoesr is called brwoesr and not
